CORPORATE POTTERY WORKSHOPS

CLAY CONNECTIONS

Designed to foster teamwork and have fun learning a new skill, the session is all about discovering the clay. Includes one large piece or 3 small pieces. This is a holistic experience, focusing on meditative creativity and conscious/unconscious self-expression.

Making art an extension of ourselves, clay is tangible, changeable, and under our control in a world that often feels out of control. Creating with clay can be a physical, sensual, and mental experience. We can allow unprocessed feelings to shape the clay. The session is about exploring form.

Themes

Suggested themes can be organic forms, sea-life, trinket dishes or tealight lanterns.

COLLABORATIVE CLAY

Encouraging teams to come together, shaping both the clay and their working relationships, working together to craft something unique, mirroring the synergy needed in the workplace. This session is about tactile gratification, seeing your own finger-marks, intentional or accidental, means that a part of us is forever connected with every piece of pottery we make. This session is light-hearted and playful, it’s all about having fun. Includes one main piece per person. Focus on strengthening communication, inspired by a theme to bring unity to a team project. Working side by side, this workshop focuses on teamwork and creativity through collaborative pottery-making.

Themes

Suggested themes could include making the funniest mug, building the tallest vase or sculpting monsters or animals.

On the day I will supply:

Stoneware Air Dry Clay – The clay I use behaves in almost the same way as the stoneware clay, it’s not the awful white stuff we used to have at school which crumbles and cracks. I like working with this clay.

  1. It can be dried at home and decorated, or
  2. The artwork can be bisque-fired (first firing) then I can return to run a shorter session for participants to glaze their pieces. The work will then be glaze-fired as per normal stoneware.

The additional cost for glazing & double-kiln firing is £30 per piece.

  • Cotton mats which are suitable as workstations, approx. 30 x 40cm
  • All tools, including sculpting tools, pottery knives, textures, any moulds and cutters, etc
  • Buckets and sponges for clean-up
DRIED AT HOME GLAZED AND KILN FIRED
  • Participants take their creations home at the end of the day
  • I can take the work home for bisque-firing, return to glaze and then final glaze-firing before returning the work.
  • I can supply sets of small tubes of acrylic paints and paintbrushes and the work can be decorated 48-72 hours later, once they are completely dry. Additional cost £3 per set
  • Will be food safe however it takes up to 8 weeks to complete the process
  • When air dried, the clay is not really food safe that is why all the projects I’ve suggested are decorative and not functional.
  • I will take all work back to my studio to be dried out – allow at least one week
  • I will bisque-fire all pieces – allow at least two weeks in case not all pieces fit into the kiln in one single firing (each firing takes 3 days and ideally I should be in the studio during firings)

There are lots of other paints which
can be used to decorate, such as:

  • Tempera
  • Acrylic
  • Watercolour palette
  • Marker pens (such as Sharpies)
  • Poster Paint
  • Varnish
  • Even nail varnish!
  • I will return for a glaze session
  • The work will have a final journey into the kiln – again, allow two weeks
  • Approx. time between the hand- building workshop and final collection can be up to 8 weeks.
